Help Matt Jones fight Brain Cancer (Glioblastoma)
On August 12, 2021, a beloved son, brother, and friend, Matthew Jones, age 25, was told he has Glioblastoma, a rare, aggressive, and life limiting brain cancer. After experiencing a number of worrying seizures in the past few weeks, Matt was hospitalized and underwent a biopsy and MRI which confirmed his diagnosis.
Matt, his father David, and siblings Nick (Donna) and Mariel are understandably devastated by this news. The Jones family only just lost their beloved mother Carolyn Reimer Jones in December 2019.
Matt is still experiencing seizures and his medication has been increased significantly to help manage them. Matt will need to immediately undergo intensive radiation and chemotherapy, and potentially surgery in the near future. Unfortunately the tumour’s specific location in Matt’s brain makes surgery a last resort. The hope is that these various treatments will slow progression of the cancer and reduce signs and symptoms.
The Jones family needs our help! Matt needs to focus on his treatments and benefit from the best possible prognosis for life expectancy. His family needs the time and resources to support him.
The goal of this fundraiser is:
- help Matt and his family with costs associated with lost wages to support his ongoing & upcoming care
- help Matt’s family with the resources to transport Matt to attend his intensive radiation and chemotherapy sessions in Vancouver (a second car is needed, insurance, and gas costs)
- hire potential various home support services
- help pay for potential accommodation closer to VGH
- support Matt to fulfill dreams and wishes he has yet to realize
