Due to a fall from a high scaffolding, Mario is currently undergoing intensive rehab in Indianapolis and is just at the beginning of a long recovery period.   Mario fell onto a concrete floor resulting in many fractured ribs, a skull fracture, and a collapsed lung.  He also had internal bleeding in his skull.  The initial days after he fell were very difficult because they had to keep him sedated so he would not cause further damage to his lungs, but this made it very difficult for the neurologist to properly diagnose what damage resulted from his head injury.

Although they initially were worried that Mario might not even make it through the night, he is a fighter and the doctors have been amazed at his progress.  Although he is confused and in a lot of pain, at least some of the initial danger with his other lung collapsing has passed.

Once he was stable enough to move, he went to Indianapolis to undergo long-term, intensive rehab at a neuroscience center.  They are hoping to better assess what damage may have been done to his brain and hopefully help him to make a fuller recovery.  Since his family lives several hours away, his wife, Naomi, is staying with him in Indy while their two children are at home with family members.  Due to the length of the rehab, their school age kids cannot stay in Indy with them.

Since it will be a very long recovery period and it is not known when or if he will be able to return to work, their family is struggling to make ends meet.  Although Mario will receive disability it is only a fraction of his salary and Naomi is having to take unpaid leave to be with her husband while he recovers.  Just being able to pay the bills and buy basic necessities is going to be extremely difficult for them for the foreseeable future.

Their family would appreciate the generosity of anyone who can help them out during this difficult time.  The Garcia family would be grateful for any type of help from those in the local area (Elkhart, IN) as well, if you are able to help with house or yard work, groceries, etc.
