Mandi's School Trip to Disney and Catalina Island

Donation protected
We are raising money for Mandi to help her achieve her goal of going to Disney/California Adventure and the Catalina Island Marine Institute in California at Fox Landing. The funds for the Catalina Island Trip are due on February 8th, which is $300. The cost for Disney/California Adventure trip is also $300, and it will cost $150 in chaperone fees for both Mandi's Mom and Dad to attend with her. The funds for the Disney/California Adventure trip are due no later than March 1st.

She will be taking both trips with her school, Ethos Academy. The trip to the Catalina Island Marine Institute is being sponsored by a leadership group, Summit Group, that Mandi was specifically chosen for by her teachers and principal. She was accepted into the Summit Group for her leadership skills, hard work and good grades. All money that is raised also provides travel to and from the trips and includes her meals and room and board for both trips.

March 13th Mandi will be at Disney/California Adventure, she will be taking a once in a lifetime musical workshop which includes a professional recording in a real recording studio. This is a follow-up trip to her performance at the Gates of Disney with her school from last year. She will be working with professional musical instructors to learn some songs. After the songs are learned they will be in true professional recording studio to record the songs they learned! She will be able to take home a copy of the recording. After the workshop and the recording the students will meet back up with parents and chaperons and be able to enjoy time in the park going on rides and games.

From May 7th - May 10th Mandi will be attending the Catalina Island Marine Institute. During her stay at the institute she will gain first hand knowledge of different aspects of the marine and island environment. During her stay at the Fox Landing she will get the once in a lifetime chance to go snorkeling. This will include an orientation snorkel to in order to learn how to be safe while in the water and use the equipment. During the Basic snorkel she will be wearing a wetsuit to keep warm and help with floatation and also learn how to wear and use a weighted belt. Once she learns the basics she will be able to explore different underwater habitats, learn how to and identify different fish and invertebrates and possibly even see a marine mammal in its natural habitat. In addition to this, she will be able to snorkel through a kelp forrest.

In addition to snorkeling, Mandi will also take part in an Ecological Hike. There are several trails within the canyons that will be explored for different plant and animal life.  Students will see, touch, smell, and possibly taste a variety of plants on the island.  Typical hikes cover the subjects of edible and useful plants, geology, feral animals and scatology.  Students will explore methods of colonization by plants and animals, why islands are unique and learn of the Native Islanders history on Santa Catalina and the Channel Islands.

This is a truly once in a lifetime opportunity that Mandi's school has provided to the students to further their education, life experiences and knowledge of musical arts and the importance of nature and the environment. Please consider donating, even $5 would go a long way in helping Mandi reach her goal!
