Help SJ Give Back, Making the Community "Sweeter"

Hi, My name is SJ, and I am opening a bakery for my community where cupcakes, cookies and all types of delicious treats are handcrafted fresh daily, but we are falling short of getting it open. I want to add that there are currently no cupcakeries in our area, and I feel that I have a great product line and a great way to get them out to our community. We plan to use our funds to create an eye-catching atmosphere by putting in a bright floor, NSF-compliant sinks, logo signage, and a bakery back counter.

 

We have had some severe struggles along the way. In the beginning, we had two financial backers, but they both passed away seemingly weeks apart from each other. Our lawyer backer passed away from MRSA; the other backer, an investment banker, lost his life to Covid-19, literally right after signing the lease agreement, causing us to figure it all out now.

 

Initially, being a public school music teacher, I withdrew the funds I set aside for this endeavor, which wasn't too terribly much. I moved in with mom and dad to cut personal costs until the bakery opened and thought I had all bases covered, but unseen obstacles kept popping up unexpectedly. The week that I went to sign my lease agreement, we had to delay the signing because my father suddenly became ill and soon after, he passed away. I am so glad that I got the chance to show him where the bakery would be on the way to getting him to the hospital. At the lease signing, I shared that in addition to making my daughter proud of me as a new bakery owner, I will open this bakery in memory of my dad. Additionally, progress to our bakery has become stagnant, not getting too much accomplished; as Covid-19 came through and wreaked havoc on many contract workers who were supposed to come complete jobs, the holidays put more of a hold on things. Hence, they are so delayed that we have to play the waiting game until they become available.

 

I am asking those who love a great cupcake, whether sweet or savory, those who have the heart to help a new business get off the ground, to help us fund our much-needed flooring in our front "showroom" area. We have chosen a very sturdy, easy to clean snap floor for $2950. including labor that the local health department has already approved; that will be the 'icing on the cake,' completing our bakery with a very polished, sweet look that every bakery needs. We have put in a great deal of effort in finding the perfect flooring that was the most economical and long-lasting. Also, for $2040., we have found a back counter that will display our menu and provide a focal point at the sales counter. We also must be compliant with the local health department by placing the required sinks in our kitchen. We have found a 3 compartment sink and a handwashing sink that will be great for our shop that are NSF compliant. The cost for these sinks is $1000. The last $1957. we will use it for business signages and logos. We want to culminate funding efforts by mid-March 2022, allowing us to get items ordered and have all preopening inspections completed before opening.

 

As I ask those close to me for funding; now, I use GoFundMe as a tool to get the word out a little further. I am excited about sharing pics as things go from humble beginnings to VAVAVOOM! I have the faith that this cupcakery will do well, and I ask that you believe in this endeavor and show your support! The support you give will mean so much to me by helping me realize my dream of opening a bakery and the thought of knowing that there are people who care about helping others! It reassures me that there are others who know what it means to have a dream, along with a longing to see that dream fulfilled. Having our projects completed will lift our spirits and get us moving along so that our community will have a great new option for treats for birthdays, graduations, retirement and church events and even office parties. We are looking to open our doors in early spring 2022. Thank you.
