LUCY

Luz Amalia Parra

If you are reading this, you are likely somehow familiar with Lucy or the Parra family. Lucy, is glue of the entire Parra family. Mrs. Parra is the sweetest lady you could ever know. Though small in stature, Lucy has a heart as big as the sun. Lucy is also the the wife of a devoted minister, the mother of four young men, mother in-law to four lovely young women and grandmother to 16 beautiful grandchildren. Lucy has lived a life of servant hood; she has always been willing to do anything for others with the most unselfish intent. Lucy left her native country of Colombia S. America in the late 70’s to give her kids a chance at a better life. Leaving behind what she knew as home, Lucy & her husband gave all they had to legally bring their family to America. Once in the U.S. Mrs. Parra and her husband worked day and night to raise a family of four rambunctious boys and carve out a life in a foreign place. In the early 90’s Luz and her husband would come to know the Lord Jesus Christ while attending Mount Paran Church of God. Within a few years the couple would become ordained ministers and begin a humble ministry that still thrives today. Pastors Luis and Luz Parra would give their entire life savings to start Roca Fuerte Christian Church. From day one, the couple poured everything into spreading the gospel across Metro Atlanta’s Latino Community. Lucy and Luis worked full-time jobs while running a full-time ministry. Their selfless devotion to serving and giving to others would pay off in priceless ways. Leading thousands of souls to Christ, the couple has helped Drug Addicts get set free, marriages reconcile, gang members change their hearts, drug dealers surrender to Christ and many children have been given homes with Godly parents. All of these blessings would soon come at a cost. Both physically and financially, their tireless determination to serve and give, would soon take a toll. In their late 60’s the couple finds themselves with a modest ministry that has been through many trying times. With a Hispanic ministry in Georgia, the small church depends on the often, migrant immigrant community. With crackdowns on illegal immigration and a transient member base the church attendance has been constantly challenged. Today the couple that once lived to give others the gift of life, finds themselves dying for a chance to have someone give them the same.

In 2009, along with millions of baby boomers everywhere, Lucy was diagnosed with Hep C.
Why Baby Boomers?
- According to the CDC many Baby Boomers were infected with Hep C in the '70s and '80s when infection control standards were not what they are today.
- Donated blood was not screened for Hep C until 1992.

Hep C. is a a vicious disease that often goes undiagnosed for decades. Hep C can cause severe and lethal  liver damage. This often fatal, disease had no cure until 2010. Miraculously less than a year after Lucy's diagnosis of Hep C, a cure was made available. Within months, Lucy was cured of the deadly disease, but not before her liver had suffered gravely. By the time Mrs. Parra was cured of Hep C, her liver was at a Stage 4 Cirrhosis. A deadly condition, which requires urgent liver transplant. The transplant will require Lucy to take very expensive medications, every day, for the rest of her life. Medications costing upwards of $5,000.00 per month for life. Even after insurance coverage The Parra family will likely pay over $1,000.00 per month. Fortunately, there is some light at the end of the tunnel. The Georgia Transplant Foundation has approved Mrs. Parra for a Match Fundraiser Account up to $10,000.00. If the Parra Family manages to raise $10,000.00, Georgia Transplant Foundation will match the family with a $10,000.00 donation. The Parra family recently received the news that Lucy had been approved for transplant and she is now active on the transplant list. The chance at life could come at any moment and a woman who has spent her life serving God, her husband, her children and her community may now be served by others. If you would like to do your part in serving Lucy, please donate to Lucy's Post Transplant Fund. Help Lucy continue to do what she does best, serve.
