Help Lovey Beat FIP and Have a Chance at Life

Donation protected
For the past 12 years (after I had to say goodbye to my two most favorite cats in the world), I held out strong that I will never get another pet again.  I only caved because my 6-year-old wanted a kitten so bad.  I knew the moment I lay eyes on a kitten, I'll be in love.  Sure enough, our visit to the shelter yielded us adopting not one but two four-month-old kittens.  That's how easily our little family of three grew when we brought home Lovey and Cutie Pie (clearly I was not allowed to have a say in the naming process).

All went well for the first 2-3 weeks, with us enjoying two happy and playful kittens chasing each other all over the house.  Then Lovey (the lighter gray one with stripes on her belly) started to deteriorate fast.  Within just a 1-2 week timeframe, she went from being a little lethargic and not as playful anymore to losing the ability to move her back legs and becoming completely incontinent.  After a multitude of tests that all came back negative, only explanation left was that she had FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis).  FIP is unfortunately fatal so the vet was ready to say goodbye to her but I was not - remember, love at first sight so now I'm in full momma-bear mode!  I found out there is a brand new drug on the market, not yet FDA approved thus vets cannot recommend nor administer, but it was Lovey's only chance at life and we had to act quickly.  I luckily found a family in Fayetteville who was in this same situation with their kitten just a month ago and their kitten has made an amazing recovery so far by taking this new drug!

The drug is called Mutian (mutian.com) and Lovey is on her second day's dose today.  Already she has shown signs of improvement and has been able to take a couple steps at a time on her own!  The only problem with Mutian is its price - at $32/pill for 3 months yields a hefty bill, especially since Lovey's dose is 1.5 times the norm since poor thing is in the last stage of the disease (it runs its course quickly).  Her expected cost of Mutian is ~$4,100 of which I'm personally covering almost half on top of some already hefty vet bills.  I am taking our other kitten, Cutie Pie, for a blood test this week as well, to make sure she is healthy or to be able to catch the disease early on with her at least.  There is a high likelihood she may have FIP too, as they are sisters.  There were a total of five kittens in their litter, and two others plus Lovey have been confirmed as positive.  I know this is a crazy amount of money but a life is a life.  This kitten has a right to live a happy and healthy life and I will do everything in my power to make that happen.

I hope you can join us on our journey to save little Lovey.
