Help Liza beat cancer!

Donation protected
Our dear friend and colleague Liza was diagnosed with stage IV breast cancer 6 years ago.  She is a warrior and fights the disease with strength, determination and courage.  She is always the first to laugh or smile and will rarely let anyone know how hard she is fighting.  But we know, because we have watched her beat back this terrible disease time and time again.  Even in the midst of her intense battle, she has remained a rock for her friends and her colleagues.  Her dedication to her job is nothing short of remarkable, and her love for her work is equal to her love for life.  Liza has always given her friends and her job her absolute best and now that she has finally agreed to let us give her something in return, we are hoping to raise enough money to give her the absolute best.

Shortly after her diagnosis, Liza went through a course of chemotherapy, causing her to lose her hair.  Being such a private person, it was very difficult for her to appear that way in public.  Liza did it with grace, of course.  She kept her smile when she lost her hair.  Her long signature curly black locks soon grew back, and when they did Liza was already undergoing different treatments.  There have been highs and lows during the past six years.  Some treatments made her devastatingly ill, others shrunk her tumors and lymph nodes and others were so successful that when combined with surgery to remove one of her tumors, they helped stabilize the disease for 6 years. Unfortunately, cancer isn’t very obedient and it has now spread to her chest.  The lymph nodes in Liza’s chest are pressing on her laryngeal nerves which affect her vocal cords making it very difficult for Liza to talk and be heard.  As much as Liza loves to talk, she still takes this new challenge in stride and has never lost her smile.  She just laughs a little bit softer.

Liza’s doctors are hoping that another round of chemotherapy will jump start remission in her chest.  We hope so too, but Liza is sad to once again lose her signature locks, and once again lose her ability to fight her disease privately on her terms.  Wigs are expensive and the cost of a quality wig starts at about $1,000.  A girl deserves great hair and we want her to feel her best!  We don’t want her to have to settle for anything, especially treatment options.

There are so many new advancements in breast cancer treatment, we want Liza to be able to explore all of them.  MD Anderson in Houston is considered the best in the country, but it is far from New York and Liza needs our help to  get there.  Liza is determined to get the best advice on the next course for her treatment.   To help her, we need to fund airfare, lodging and travel incidentals for Liza and her husband Louis.  We also want to help Liza pay her medical expenses.

Liza has raised thousands of dollars for the American Cancer Society and Susan G. Komen’s Race for the Cure.  We want to do the same for her now.  She turns 50 on September 14.  Together we can make sure she feels our love and support on her birthday and far beyond!

Thank you for taking the time to read a small piece of her story.  She – and all of her friends and family - would be forever grateful for any donation big or small and for all good energy passed her way as she embarks on this next course and into her 50’s!
