Help Little Ellis Battle Leukemia

On August 9th, my sister, Jessica, received news that her 3-year-old son, Ellis, has cancer.

The type of cancer he has been diagnosed with is acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), which means his condition declined aggressively over the last few months. During that time, Jessica struggled with the healthcare system to find answers; this involved numerous trips to the ER and visits with his pediatrician. Finally, on August 9th, Ellis was admitted into the Children's Hospital in Calgary, AB, where his diagnosis was confirmed.

While an experienced team is involved in his care, Ellis has a very long road ahead. He begins his 2.5-year treatment plan on Friday, August 12, with his first chemotherapy session.

As one can imagine, this impacts all aspects of their lives. Jessica has already had to uproot her life in Medicine Hat to be in Calgary for the next while, and she has had to step away from her career to ensure Ellis' and his siblings' care.
