Help Libby Get Through Recovery

This past July, my mom, Libby Blasetti, and my step-dad, Joseph Blasetti found themselves removing shingles from their roof, and looking forward to a brand new home.  With no prior experience, and with the confidence of a woman in great shape, my mom took out the last bolt of the shingle she was standing on. In the blink of an eye, she was on the ground, in pain, unable to move, and unable to breathe.

She was rushed into the ER and found to have severe back injuries. She had multiple fractures in her spine – she chipped her L2, L3, and her coxis, and cracked her L4 in half. Her right heel and ankle were completely shattered, and her right fibula was broken as well. The initial prognosis, though positive, included preparing for a multitude of surgeries on her foot, wearing a full torso brace at all times, and being home bound for at least 6 months.

One month and a half, and three successful surgeries later, my mother’s pain is still strong, but so is her will to fight on. We have been blessed with fantastic doctors and hospitals committed to steering her through the hellish maze of medical bills. My step father has been able to stay by her side and care for her through mundane activities such as making food and taking my mom to the bathroom, as they have not been able to afford an in-house nurse. Everyone in the family is finding ways to help financially, and offer as much emotional support as possible.

The task now is paying bills and debts, and keeping the lights on at home. That is where we need this community’s support -- to help my mom focus on her recovery and get back on her feet, figuratively and literally.
