Help Leigh get a Transplant
Donation protected
Leigh began her struggle two years ago with the onset of numerous health issues that went undiagnosed. Just prior to the pandemic, she was diagnosed with non-alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver and is in urgent need of a liver transplant.
Leigh is a civilian member of the Cornwall Police Service. She has a heart of gold and her smile and laughter light up a room. Leigh's husband (William Schoenmakers), 2 boys, her 2 month old grand-daughter who she hopes to soon meet (because of COVID), and their puppy Luna are her world.
Leigh continued to work from home until now. As her health continues to decline, she awaits final approval for a liver transplant and is no longer able to work.
A liver transplant will require Leigh to be in Toronto ( 4 hours from home) for approximately 6 weeks. Both sons are undergoing the donor match testing. Upon matching the donor will be required to be in hospital for some time while they recover from the organ donation surgery. It is clear that time is of the essence and the hardship bestowed upon this family will be significant, especially if the procedure takes them even further from home.
The funds raised by this web page will be used by her husband and beneficiary William Schoenmakers first and foremost for her medical care and the care of her donor's post-surgical accommodation in Toronto. Furthermore, there is a risk that a match will not be found in time in Canada, so we would like to be able to offer our friend the funds to pursue options elsewhere if need be.
Any contributions big or small that will help Leigh in her journey would be graciously accepted and appreciated.
