Help Lauren Heal

Donation protected

On August 29, 2013, 8 year old Lauren and her family received the heartbreaking news that a tumor found on Lauren's knee was cancer. Lauren was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, and will begin chemotherapy immediately.

This fund is being set into place as quickly as possible to help meet the immediate and long term needs of Lauren's family. Please take a few moments to read below what Lauren's mother, Vicki, shared about the trials they have faced in the last year:

Last October, my 17 year old daughter was diagnosed with a brain tumor. It was removed and she was left blind on her left side and double vision in both eyes. (If it were one, they could correct that, however with it being both, there is no fix.) She has been extremely brave and has persevered to adjust. This has not been an easy road for any of us. We were told 3 weeks ago that her vision would not improve and that it is the best that it will be.

Last Thursday, my 8 year old daughter was diagnosed with a bone tumor. We prayed that it would be benign and could be removed as Shannon's was. We made yet another trip to our home away from home......Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Florida. Today, a biopsy was done on the tumor. We were devastated to hear that Lauren's is cancer. Rarely, you hear of stories like this and think "this could never happen to me"......"not my family". We will go home for the weekend but return on Monday or Tuesday to begin the dreaded struggles of chemotherapy. How do you even begin to tell your 8 year old that she has cancer? How do you tell your own child that she is going to be VERY sick to her stomach and even lose her hair? It is terrifying. That does not even begin to address the removal of the tumor following chemo and rebuilding of the bone which will then be followed by more chemo. I ask myself "Why us God"? How does this happen. I keep trying to wake myself up from this horrid nightmare but then have to remind myself that this is real and it is going to just go away. We are physically, emotionally and financially drained. We have no idea how we are going to pay for transportation, lodging, food, etc. (The Ronald McDonald House is full and has a two page waiting list) Not very encouraging...as a matter of fact, it is extremely discouraging. All we can do is trust that God will use his almighty power to SOMEHOW....work this out. It is so difficult to tell our kids "not to worry....it will all work out." They are aware and know that things are VERY tight.
We are so very thankful for all of the prayers that are being sent up. We have wonderful friends that have encouraged us and kept us going. I can not thank everyone enough. Please continue to pray so that we can stay afloat and keep from drowning in our trials. Love to all!!!!

The Price/McGarry Family

It is very important that they are able to put their emotional, physical, and spiritual energy into Lauren's healing, where it is most needed. We hope to ease their financial burden as much as possible so they can do just that. We will add updates and pictures throughout Lauren's treatment, and hope to continue helping them survive what is about to be a very long and draining struggle.

With every donation and every prayer, we will help little Lauren and her family get through this. All donations will go directly to The Price/McGarry Family. Thank you!
