Help Laura's Fight Against Leukemia

My name is Kim and I am starting this GoFundMe in hopes of relieving some of the financial burdens off of Laura and her finance my brother.

On February 17th Laura was diagnosed with AML ( Acute Myeloid Leukemia). AML starts in the bone marrow but then quickly moves into the blood, as well. AML is rare and accounts for about 1% of all cancers. In late November Laura went to the ER with acute abdominal pain and after testing nothing was found. She returned 2 days later with the same pain and a complete blood count was done. It wasn't normal but the doctors were focused on ruling out other diseases/illnesses. It wasn't until mid-January after several Dr. visits that Laura asked her PCP to do a follow-up CBC. She was called by her hematologist to come in immediately. She called Laura a week later and told her she thought she had leukemia and she needed to check herself into the hospital immediately for treatment.

Laura has been at Ben Taub hospital In Houston Texas now for a couple of weeks and started chemo on Saturday. Because she has been sick she has not been able to work more than part-time for the past couple of months and has lost her health insurance. My brother and her have been together for 6 yrs and he has a senior at Texas A&M and one daughter still at home.

They have a long fight ahead of them and my hope is if we can alleviate some of the financial obstacles so that Laura and Tommy can focus on her treatment and recovery.

The donations from this GoFundMe will help offset the medical bills, travel expenses and lost time at work for my brother.
