Hi, my name is Kyle and this is my covid journey...

For the last year I've been working from home. The only time I left the house was to take walks and maybe 4 times I ventured to run an important errand. My husband Cory and I had a delivery service bring us our groceries. We were careful to sanitize everywhere in the house, we wore masks when we had to leave the confines of our home. Although I was cautious and did what the CDC recommended, I still believed Covid was just another type of common flu and was not interested in the vaccine.

Then it happened, I started to feel funky and feverish. I went to have a Covid test done and I attempted to treat myself at home. It was 8 days later that I was admitted to the hospital via the ER because I couldn’t breath. A short 2 days after that I found myself being admitted into the ICU. Already afraid, confused, and in horrible pain I realized I was being put into medical paralysis to allow for the staff to put me on a ventilator. One of the most terrifying moments of my life was waking up with my arms tied down and tubes down my throat unable to communicate or move.

A word from my loving husband Cory about his experience during this tough time;

"In the beginning I watched Kyle's temperature fluctuate between 101 and 103.5. There came a point where she appeared to be suffocating, thus we headed to the ER. She was immediately admitted to the hospital.  I watched her health decline before my eyes. I heard her screams as it was finally determined covid attacked her spleen causing blood clots. Her health continued to spiral downward, thus she was moved to ICU.  My first experience of the covid ward was row upon row of people on ventilators. The next morning I was in route to the hospital when I got the call she needed to be placed on a ventilator and my heart stopped.  I arrived to witness the horror of the team attempting to place a tube down her throat while she flailed her struggling body. Her body went motionless as they administered the paralytic. The mechanical ventilator now sustaining her life. I remember the doctor telling me 10 minutes later she would have died. It was here she laid for 4 days, a machine keeping her alive. I would read to her in her room knowing she could her me but was not be able to move or speak. I would lay in bed terrified when the phone would ring. always thinking it was the doctor calling to tell me she had past away. the trauma will effect me for the rest of my life." -Cory Barnes

So to say the least, I am filled with gratitude to be alive. As of writing this I am in a long term rehab facility waiting to find out if I will need surgery to remove my spleen due to covid related blood clots. Regardless, I’ll be here until the end of May possibly longer depending if I have surgery and how it goes.

My husband and I have a $7000.00 deductible that we don’t have any idea how we are going to pay. This is the very first time we’ve asked for help like this but we did not know where else to turn. As hard as it is to ask for help, we know we need it at this time, any and every penny would relieve such a huge amount of stress for us.

Any level of help comes with thankfulness from the bottom of our hearts and thank you in advance for your kindness and generosity.
