Help Kim get to VONA/Voices

Donation protected
Hey all!

Let's begin this with a sentiment close and dear to my heart - I started writing because, growing up, I couldn't find stories that fit the narrative of my family or my neighborhood.  Growing up,  the knowledge of my family's survival during the Khmer Rouge has always existed in the periphery of my knowledge; I knew that my parent weren't immigrants, but refugees and that they survived a major war.  It wasn't until I was older than I learned the depth of horror and cruelty that my family witness during the Khmer Rouge. I also knew that their stories were important, precious and needed to be told. This is one of the main reasons I began to write - to tell my stories and the stories of those who looked like me.

I have always been supported and encouraged by not just my amazing family, but also my network of friends and mentors. I have always felt blessed as a young writer to be so loved. One of the biggest blessings has occured quite recently. I have been accepted to VONA/Voices Class of 2017 and to further add to the surreal, good fortune of all of this - I will be studying with Junot Diaz, an author I have loved since I first read Drown in a creative writing class when I was just 18 years old.

Being accepted to VONA and the prospoect of being in a community of like-minded, POC writers is a dream of mine. But I need YOUR help to get there. Whatever contribution  you can give will be most welcomed and I promise that I will never forget it.

In fact, for local donors (near NYC and Boston), I'll definitely hunt you down and get you a drink, on me. This is literally a dream come true for me and I would forever be grateful if you help me achieve this dream!
