On April 9, 2018 Kelly was diagnosed with an inoperable tumor located in her brain stem. She was admitted to the ICU at Unity Point hospital where more lesions throughout her body were discovered. We met with radiation oncology and medical oncology each who had a plan of treatment.
She completed 14 radiation treatments on her brain, which were later determined to be unsuccessful. Medical oncology took over her care and began immunotherapy. After one treatment of immunotherapy she was hospitalized again because the treatment was hurting her liver.
After much discussion with her care team, as a family we decided to stop treatment and welcome hospice care into our home to help give my mom a better quality of life with the time she has left.
The medical bills from all of the testing, treatments, and multiple hospital stays are beginning to pile up. They are down to just the income of my dad because the treatments and location of the tumor effect the way she walks, talks, thinks, etc. We want to give her the best memories in the time she has left with us. Ever since I was little my parents have been talking about their bucket list and at the top of that list was taking a trip to the Florida Keys. Casey & I would love to make that trip happen but the medical bills just keep coming so we are asking for help. Help to make those memories for both of my parents and cross off her bucket list.
