Help Kelly and Kevin pay for Spinal Surgery

This Go Fund Me is to raise funds for Kelly to travel to Germany for spinal surgery to regain her mobility and help ease her relentless pain.

Kelly was born and raised in Dawson Creek. Throughout her life, she has been a caregiver and champion for others. Kelly spent her early adult years raising her children, providing care and support to many other children and families along the way. In the past two decades, Kelly has worked professionally in social work in Dawson Creek, and she continues to be integral in the daily lives of her children and grandchildren. Kelly is also a caregiver for her aging mother.

Kelly suffered from a spinal injury resulting from a car accident at age 15. Kelly underwent multiple surgeries over the next couple of years, but she was left with pain and spinal problems that have exasperated over the years. Kelly’s quality of life has declined as she experiences constant pain associated with scoliosis, severe degenerative disc disease, and bulging disks in the lumbar. Kelly is facing worsening pain and mobility that will result in her using a wheelchair.

Kelly has been approved for two back surgeries in Germany that will help to eliminate her pain and reduce her mobility loss. One of which is not available in Canada, the surgeries include replacing lumbar disks and inputting rods and screws to stabilize her spine and stop degenerative scoliosis, and fusing cervical disks to correct the disk bulging and reduce the impact on her spinal cord. With the surgery, Kelly will regain some quality of life that she has lost.

The surgery will cost $125,000 and is not covered by our medical. Kelly and Kevin are also responsible for their travel and stay in Germany during the 5 week recovery period before she can travel home.
