Help Kejah Fund Her Medical Education

Donation protected

Hello Everyone,

My name is Kejah Bascon , I am 22 years old with a B.A. Honours in Cognitive Psychology and Neuroscience. I am a low income student living in Ottawa Ontario who has always had a strong passion for medicine . From the age of 5 my sole inspiration came from watching a television show called Dr. G the Medical Examiner , watching her confidence and intelligence shaped my interest and passion for medicine. Throughout growing up I have had barriers and discouragement when it came to my goals due to the fact that I was homeschooled from grade 2-12 , this was because my parents where very appalled with quality of education in the schools near my neighbourhood and would rather sacrifice their time and money so that I could get a good education . During that time I was homeschooled I pursued many interests that where available to me as a child growing up within poverty such as including playing in a child orchestra which provided free music lessons as well as exposure to performing in front of a crowd, becoming a lifeguard with the help of city subsidies as well as extracurriculars such as volunteering extensively in my community as well as track and field. Once I entered grade 12 at a local highschool (I did this to prevent issues with applying to university, it’s a bit harder as a homeschooled applicant) , I was bombarded with teachers doubting me and treating me as if I have a learning disability solely due to the fact I was a homeschooled low income student, they already labelled me and attempted to force me to stay an extra year. I pushed through graduates and then was able to attend Carleton university. During my

time in university I had to work full time as a Developmental Service Worker (DSW) because my family did not have a enough money or psychological support(my parents have mental and physical illnesses) to help me through my studies. I worked nearly everyday in retirement homes and also at a local community pool as a lifeguard when I could as well. I was still able to get good grades while balancing everything on my plate and realized that the once deemed impossible goal of attending medical school is now possible. After the continuous sacrifice of staying focused regardless of the challenges and graduating with a 3.7 GPA this year , the hard part of getting into a medical school was over but I am still stuck with a very large financial burden. OSAP does cover some of the costs but not fully and I am at a point where there aren’t many options for me in terms of financial aid. My parents being in low income bracket, where not able to be approved as my co signers for a professional student line of credit to help fund my education. I have created this go fund me fundraiser because I am in desperate need of help and any help is so much appreciated. The amount I have put is my full tuition for the 4 year program at Saint James Medical School , with its campus located on the beautiful island of St,Vincent and the Grenadines. The reason I have choose this school is because it is much cheaper than some of the other medical schools in the Caribbean and also their promising match rates for their graduates coming back to Canada( I plan to come back here and pursue a residency in neurosurgery or forensic pathology) .Any help is something and I am deeply appreciative of those who are willing to help . I start school September 9th and being that there is covid I hope to raise enough money for when I will have to travel to the island and start doing labs. This money will solely go to helping with my tuition as well as accommodations on the island .

I have attached my resume to this for those who would

like to see the hard work I have put into my passion and goals regardless of the financial barriers I have faced .
