Help Keep This Old Book Bookstore Alive!

This Old Book opened its doors in 2003. We have been part of the Grayslake community for 17 years. We have worked to bring quality used books to our community. I personally took over running the store in 2013 because it was important for me to see the bookstore stay in Grayslake. We are one of the few remaining independent bookstores in Northern Illinois. We take pride in our friendly staff, well-organized inventory, and store’s cleanliness. We have worked diligently to support and promote local authors and artists, and we have sponsored several writing contests for area students.
But now we are asking for your help. Due to Covid-19 we have had been closed for the last 1 1/2 months. We have tried to keep going with gift certificates and online orders, but unfortunately this has not been enough to cover the store’s expenses.
Funds raised will be used to pay rent, utilities, and salaries for our small staff. We have invoices piling up and are worried about continuing to operate. When Jason, my husband, and I bought the bookstore we knew the bookstore would support itself financially but do little to generate a profit. We are avid readers and wanted the community to have a bookstore where people could come together in their love of books. We want to be in Grayslake for years to come. We have been fortunate in having wonderful clients, and we truly appreciate the friendships we've made with them. With your help and when the stay-at-home orders gradually and safely lift, we want to be here to serve our clients in a safe, friendly, and person-to-person environment.
