A few short weeks after celebrating her 28th birthday, Katy was diagnosed with stage 1 cervical cancer. For all who know Katy, her reaction upon receiving such upsetting news came as no surprise -- she came out swinging with the best attitude imaginable.
Unfortunately, since her initial diagnosis, Katy has undergone several procedures and surgery, spent far too long in the hospital, and learned that her fight will not be quick or easy. When Katy went under the knife for a planned hysterectomy, her doctors discovered that the cancer had spread into the tissue around her intestine, and the hysterectomy was halted.
Katy has returned to Oklahoma to be with her family and begin treatment with the Stephenson Cancer Center through the University of Oklahoma. Katy is the strongest, most generous, and positive human being I and many of you have ever known, and has always been the first in line to help her friends and family. But right now, she needs our support.
At this point, Katy will begin clinical trials and other treatment that will last at least six months, if not longer. This means that not only will Katy be saddled with expensive medical bills and added expenses that come along with any cancer battle, but she will be unable to work during this time.
The last thing Katy needs while she fights this horrible, unfair disease is the added stress of financial burdens. I created this page for two reasons: (1) as a place for you to receive updates and information about Katy's progress, and (2) a place for people to donate. I Know we all want to do whatever we can to help Katy-- so while her doctors help her kick cancer's butt, and family and friends keep thinking positive thoughts, this is one other way we can all contribute to her battle.
