Help Katie say Goodbye

My name is Kate Trewin and I’ve set up this Go Fund Me on behalf of my closest friend Katie Laczko who unexpectedly lost her father – Peter Laczko, on the 15th of September 2021.

Katie’s mother had an aneurysm followed by a stroke in 2016 and is left in a full care centre with high costs, having no siblings and little in the way of extended family Katie is left to handle the costs of end-of-life alone alongside her grief. I am trying to provide a small amount of relief for Katie in this time by at least easing the financial burden.

Peter was a kind and loving father with a sense of adventure who did his best to have his daughters back and could always be relied upon to have a dad joke ready when needed. Peter was always ready to jump into some silly shenanigans, from setting up a maze to get to the toilet at parties to misunderstanding WA bait (a store selling tiny prawns) as WABAIT, it’s clear to see where Katie got her sense of fun from.

Unfortunately – like all of us – he was not without fault. Peter was not a mentally well man and unfortunately his home has been left in pretty bad shape.

I don’t want Katie to have to clean out his home in the state it is in – that doesn’t seem like the kind of last memories any of us want from a beloved family member. While I am happy to do what I can it isn’t a one-person job, it’s a job that needs professionals. Hence, the Go Fund Me.

Looking at quotes, the kind of cleaning required ranges from $2,000 - $25,000 and while I haven’t seen the property personally, I am guessing it will be somewhere middle - higher end of the cost scale.

I am setting the goal to $5,000 as I think this should at least cover the removal of hazardous materials and rubbish, then I can head in and do the ‘normal’ cleaning myself. Anything more than this goal will go towards the cleaning process, or costs associated with end-of-life such as funeral, burial/cremation, and legal costs.

Funds will go directly to Katie, and I will be assisting her in organisation.

Katie is an amazing friend, and while she doesn’t have much she will always jump in and help whenever she can, she’s been there for me through thick and thin – lets be there for her too.
