Help Kat Lewis Fight Cancer

Our dear friend Kat is 44 years old, married to Matt Lewis, and the mother of two kids, Maddie (14), and Noah (10). Her life was turned upside down one year ago when she was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer.
Treatment So Far:
Kat had surgery in March 2017 to remove tumors from her colon and appendix. Since then she has undergone 18 rounds of chemotherapy. Unfortunately, the chemo is not working and the tumors continue to spread and grow, threatening vital body functions.
Life-Saving Surgery:
The latest colonoscopy revealed that Kat has another extremely large tumor that is fast growing and aggressive. Kat will be flying from Santa Rosa, California to Washington DC for a life-saving cytoreductive surgery and HIPEC (hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy) in March 2018. This surgery will remove the tumor, part of her bowel, spleen, uterus, part of the abdomen and all discovered areas where cancerous cells are found. Immediately after, she will get a high dose, high temperature chemotherapy bath applied directly into the abdomen to attack microscopic cancer cells. Kat will be in the ICU for two days minimum following surgery and in the hospital for at least 14 days. She will probably not be able to walk when released from the hospital.

Kat is extremely fortunate that the surgeon who invented this procedure, Dr. Paul Sugarbaker, will be performing the surgery. While Kaiser has agreed to pay for most of the medical expenses, your donations will help towards expenses in Washington DC and with the long recovery back home. Kat has not worked in her full-time job at Santa Rosa Junior College since she was admitted to the hospital one year ago.
