Help Kanisha kick cancer!

Donation protected
My sister whom I’ve spent my life admiring received devastating news on August 24, 2017. Kanisha, a recent graduate was just beginning her career in social work and excitedly expecting her first baby when her world was turned upside down.

At 29 years old and three months pregnant, Kanisha was diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndrome, a form of bone marrow cancer. The doctors informed Kanisha that treatment is necessary, however, she refused to terminate the pregnancy with the hopes that she could carry the baby for as long as possible. The doctors are unsure how long she can continue to defer treatment and remain pregnant, however, with the assistance of blood donors and multiple blood transfusions she is in her third trimester. Every passing week is truly a blessing for the baby and our family!

Kanisha has a courageous spirit, everyday I am in awe of how my sister maintains her positivity in light of current circumstances. Her perseverance is inspiring and her will for life is ever present in her smile, which is never difficult to find. Despite her hardships, Kanisha remains compassionate, often concerned how her diagnosis affects others more so than herself. She is so looking forward to motherhood and it pains me to know that cancer has robbed her of breastfeeding and other bonding experiences.

After her baby girl is born, Kanisha will endure chemotherapy. She is also in need of a stem cell transplant once a donor is matched. This procedure will require her family to move to Ottawa for months and it is her only chance at remission. As you all know, life carries on whether ill or not, therefore, this account is an attempt to alleviate some of the financial stress facing my sister and her family at this difficult time. Your donations will be used towards preparation for the baby, bills, caregiving and travel expenses. Please help me support my sister and enable her to focus on her and the baby’s wellbeing.

Thank you for taking the time to read our story. We greatly appreciate all your support and prayers!
