Help Junior's vet bills after snake bite

Donation protected
This handsome man’s name is Junior, and this is his story…

Junior is an 8 year old male Yorkshire terrier
He has a larger than life personality and loves nothing more than long walks and chasing his ball with the rest of his yorkie family, but on Saturday his whole world came tumbling down when we discovered swelling, blistering and a large open wound on his paw, which we now know was the effects of an Adder Snake bite.

Junior is now in the care of the incredible team at Edinburgh Beterinary school. He is in a critical condition in ICU that requires constant monitoring and treatment, but I know he is in the best place and that the team is working tirelessly to help him with his recovery.

He is suffering from low blood glucose level so has been put on a drip and is being fed through a tube to help build his strength. It is unclear at the moment the severity of his injuries; he could suffer from multiple organ failure and there’s possibility his leg will have to be amputated. Nevertheless, we remain with our heads held high and hoping everyday that the little guy will be ok.

We would honestly do anything to get Junior the help he needs, but the looming bills is a harsh reality and a scary thing to deal with. We have paid an initial deposit of £2000 but the estimate for costs is over £4000. We understand so many people are having a difficult financial period at the moment, and we would not be asking for help unless we really had to. We love our Junior more than words can express, and any amount that you might be able to spare to help get Junior the treatment he needs to get through this would be greatly appreciated. As we don't have the exact cost of bills just yet, we promise that if there is any leftover money it will be donated to a suitable animal charity.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. I want to take this opportunity to make fellow dog owners aware of the danger of Adders and grass snakes to their pets. Junior showed no indication that he had been bitten- if you suspect this has happened to your pet then timing is everything. There is an anti-venom, but there's such a short time frame for vets to be able to administer the drug.
