Support Julie’s COVID Rehabilitation

WHAT HAPPENED?
On Jan 2nd, 2021, our Mom Julie was found by her sis-in-law to be unconscious in her home. It was her birthday and so Christine was going to drop her off a gift when she saw her on the floor through the window. It’s unclear how long she was unconscious or how she ended up on the floor. She was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and put into a medically-induced coma on a ventilator. She was treated for lung injury, COVID pneumonia, and COVID sepsis. She required several life-saving therapies and eventually improved to the point where she was taken off life support on 1/12/21. At that point, she quickly deteriorated again due to development of a bacterial pneumonia superinfection because COVID left her lungs damaged. The bacteria made her septic and she almost lost her life on 1/17/21 as she fought hard to get enough oxygen into her blood. Her lungs were so tired. The amazing care team worked tirelessly to save her life and they flooded her system with powerful antibiotics as she developed a drug-resistant bacterial infection. They also started pronation therapy, which is for severe COVID patients with lung injury-- It is working!
As of today (1/22/21) she is still WITH US fighting but is still in a coma on life support! Her lungs are oxygenating her body more effectively now and her heart is beating strong again. Her infection is improving. We have hope that she will persevere and make it through this. We want her to have a home to come back to and to ease the financial burden of almost a month of ICU care on a ventilator.

WHO IS JULIE?
Julie is a Family Nurse Practitioner, a mother of two (Kamryn & Kyleigh DePetro), a daughter, sister, and certainly a friend to many. Those of you who know Julie know her as a spunky and fun woman who is always looking to make people laugh and feel happy. She would do anything for her kids, family, and friends. Julie is a Family Nurse Practitioner (MSN/FNP) who spent over 25 years providing care to the ill. She graduated with her Bachelor of Science from Cal State University Bakersfield in 1992 and earned her Master of Nursing and Family Nurse Practitioner license in 2003. In her free time, she enjoys binge-watching Netflix (Queen of the South was her most recent binge) and LOVES her two pitbulls Mama and Dozer.

WHO IS HOSTING THIS FUNDRAISER & WHAT IS IT FOR?
Julie DePetro's children Kamryn & Kyleigh are holding this fundraiser in order to raise money to pay for Julie's mortgage, monthly health insurance premium, and other bills while she is in a coma and on life support due to COVID.
Fundraising is not something we wanted to do, but we are desperate to advocate for her... Her home is her most prized possession and her care in the hospital requires insurance coverage. Those are the two main bills we'd like to fund her through this time, but of course there are others (gas, electric, water, credit cards).
In order to do this, we are asking for your kind and generous assistance.
You might wonder why?-- Julie is currently without income because she was in-between jobs when her condition deteriorated to the point of requiring ventilation and sedation. Savings were low because she helped pay for her daughter's wedding in fall 2020. She has been in a coma on a ventilator now since 1/2/21 (her birthday).
Because we have FAITH she will endure and recover, we are hoping to raise money so she can keep her home and other items she has worked so hard to earn throughout her life. Truly, her home is the only thing we have to connect us to her through her coma.

WHEN WILL WE USE THE FUNDS?
We will use the funds as soon as they are available to pay monthly bills to maintain her home, credit accounts, and health insurance coverage. We are not sure how long she will be in a coma, hospitalized, and unable to work.

CONCLUSION
Thank you for taking the time to read our Mom's story. She is a true fighter and the example of a woman who has spent her entire life saving others. While we would love and welcome any level of financial support, your prayers and positive thoughts are just as supportive and comforting to us and the entire family. We welcome it all. If you could also take the time to spread Julie's story we would love to know about it. Thank you for your time. Much love from us all.
