Hello friends and family!
We’re unfortunately here to inform you that our dear cousin/nephew, Jonathan Pinto, has recently been diagnosed with a rare blood disease called Aplastic Anemia. On May 23, after experiencing overwhelming fatigue, Jonathan had blood drawn and was admitted into the hospital due to extremely low levels. At first it was not clear what was going on with Jonathan’s body, but eventually his doctors realized that what they were dealing with was Aplastic Anemia; a rare blood disease in which the bone marrow (and the cells that reside there) are damaged, causing a deficiency of blood cells and platelets.
Since his diagnosis, Jonathan has received five blood transfusions and two bone marrow biopsies. But his battle has just begun. Because his sister, Hannah, is not a bone marrow match for him and therefore unable to donate, Jonathan will undergo drug treatments to try to recover his own bone marrow and bring his blood levels back to normal. He will make the trip to Stanford next week to begin these treatments.
As has been the case his entire life, Jonathan’s parents have been by his side, supporting him every step of the way. It is our hope, that through the donations made to this page, we will be able to help John and Annie with the financial burdens that accompany this hardship. We want the family to be able to focus solely on getting Jonathan healthy again. Anyone who knows Jonathan knows he is anxious to get back to his active lifestyle!
I have seen GoFundMe fundraisers do amazing things for families in need. It is humbling to see a community pull together to take care of their own. Any and all donations are beyond appreciated. We will keep you posted on Jonathan’s progress and please keep the prayers coming!
