Help Jim Savino Live with ALS

Jim was recently diagnosed with ALS (also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease). This was a devastating blow to Jim, his wife, and their two young children.
As Lou Gehrig suffered from this disease, he called out to a crowded stadium, “Fans…you have been reading about the bad break I got. Yet today I consider myself the luckiest man on the face of the earth.” He goes on to speak of the people in his life who love him and how he has a lot to live for.
Jim also has a lot to live for and we have the opportunity to help him do that. With your help, he will be able to pay for medical expenses. Right now, Jim is at the beginning of his time with ALS, but we know he needs our help with what is to come. There may come a time when he will no longer be able to work to support his wife and children. He and his family truly need our support at this difficult time.
In an effort to save not only his own life but also those of others, Jim is doing an extensive literature search on the link between excess iron in the body and brain and neurodegenerative diseases such as ALS, MS, Parkinsons, etc. A great deal of scientific work has already been published on aspects of this but at present the medical community seems completely unaware of the high reward and low risk that reducing iron levels might bring to the PALS community. Jim has enlisted the assistance of his doctors in reducing his own highly elevated iron levels in an effort to starve the disease of a reactant and catalyst which it needs to progress. Using himself as a test case, Jim would like to assemble the results of his investigations and create a presentation that he could offer to the medical and research communities to raise awareness of a simple method to extend survival times in people with such diseases.
