It all started in the year "2008" when my sister Jennifer had fallen through the floor of a garage loft at a friend's gathering. She was caught by the floor joists and hit her ribs as she fell though the floor. Going through most of the following day with rib pain and having a hard time breathing, my family and I encouraged Jennifer to go to the E.R.
She had broken 4 ribs and punctured a lung. A blessing in disguise revealed through a MRI and Cat scan that there was an abnormal mass on her brain the size of a golf ball.
Facing Jennifer's first surgery August 8, 2008 was an experience our family never thought would happen to us. There were some challenging moments but Jennifer seemed to heal and get back to somewhat of a normal life, although there were still some challenges.
I will never forget the phone call I received at the end of February of this year when my sister told me that the tumor had grown back. My stomach sank to the floor just thinking of what she would have to go through again.
March 2, 2017 was her second brain surgery this time being a grade 3 Anaplastic Astrocytoma. The diagnosis was that this type of tumor will just keep growing back and more aggressive.
Now into December, with Christmas just around the corner, Jennifer and our family will be heading to Dana Faber/ Brighams and Woman's Hospital for her third brain surgery on December 19th, 2017. Jennifer has not fully recovered from her last surgery.
