Hi everyone, my name is Janae, and I am a junior biochemistry major at UNC Greensboro hoping to earn a PhD in pharmacology and a Master's in Public Health (MPH). I want to advance drug discovery and development as well as improve healthcare accessibility for minorities. I am also a U-RISE fellow, which allows me to conduct natural products research to address the global health issue of rising antibiotic resistance.
I have the incredible opportunity to study abroad in the UNCG Global Health and Disaster Preparedness program in the Caribbean. This amazing opportunity will allow me to gain experience with global healthcare systems, expand my research perspective, and develop a deeper understanding of how science and policy intersect globally. After seeing the devastating affects of Hurricane Helene on my home of Asheville, NC, I am committed to learning more about disaster preparedness and response to give back to my community.
This experience is essential for my academic and professional growth, as it will equip me with the cultural awareness and expertise needed to make a meaningful impact in public health and pharmaceutical research. Any support you can provide will help me take this transformative step in my journey and will be appreciated. Thank you for believing in my vision!
