Help Jaime Zaharias Fight Cancer

Donation protected
Hello everyone,

We are seeking donations for the Zaharias family to help cover the costs regarding their daughter, Jaime Zaharias, in her battle with Stage 4 cancer. This is her story:

At 15, Jaime is the youngest of 5 children to her parents Peter and Carole. She is in the 10th grade, loves playing rep hockey, and spending time with her friends and family.

In August of 2019, Jaime started complaining about pain in her right leg. After going to the doctor she was diagnosed with pinched radicular nerves which was thought to be an injury from her dryland training. Her doctor recommended physiotherapy, but after a few months, her pain worsened. The doctor sent her for x-rays where they discovered that she had a fractured pelvis. She was then scheduled for an ultrasound, but unfortunately, she had been away and had to self isolate for 2 weeks. While waiting for her isolation to pass, her pain became unmanageable to the point where she could barely sleep, walk, or eat. On March 26th, her mom, Carole, took her to the emergency room in Ajax. After many tests, they discovered that all of Jaime's seemingly sports-related symptoms actually pointed to one thing- Cancer. Jaime was immediately transported by ambulance to Sick Kids Hospital, where she was diagnosed with metastatic Ewing Sarcoma. Ewing Sarcoma is a rare form of cancer occurring in only 200 children in North America each year. Jaime's cancer started as a tumour in her hip, as it grew it compressed her nerves, fractured her hip, and spread to her lungs, bone marrow, and bones.

Jaime will have to undergo an extremely aggressive regimen of chemotherapy and radiation. This will require the family to drive to and from Sick Kids in Toronto up to five days a week over the next 6 months. As hard as we try, no words can comfort a family who has just found out such devastating news. Instead, I created this go fund me to help alleviate some of the financial stress she and her family will endure. With Carole being off work for the entirety of Jaime's treatment's these expenses will be an added stress for the Zaharias family.

My hope is for this money to cover the costs of gas, parking, medications not covered by insurance, as well as a trip Jaime, wishes to take with her immediate family of twelve once her treatments are done. Any donations will be greatly appreciated to help them during these difficult times.

Hey everyone just posting a little update on Jaime:

First I would just like to say thank you to everyone for their overwhelming support. Jaime and her family are blown away at the amount of support they have received during this difficult time.

Last Thursday Jaime's hair began to fall out, so she made the difficult decision to shave her head (you can see in the picture below, she rocks the bald head).  As pictured below her father, brothers, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, boyfriend, and many more family members shortly followed suit to show their support for her.

As of today Jaime has finished her second chemo treatment, and is tired but in good spirits!

For those who wish to stay updated on Jaime and do not have social media, I will be keeping updates to Go Fund Me. Thank you again to those who have offered their support in any way! Stay safe everyone.
