Help Jacques Catsteau Get Care!

Donation protected
Dear friends & animal lovers:

This kitty you see is Jacques "Jack" Catsteau. Jacques has been turned out and neglected, and this little Romeo has been stealing hearts around the streets of South Philly--now, our hearts are gripped in his little paws. A dear, lovely neighbor has finally snagged him on the prowl and we've now got a little "care community" that needs your help.

Little Jacques has some problems, but he is, hands down, the sweetest cat I have ever encountered. Sure, he peed in his carrier, but homeboy LET ME GIVE HIM A BATH afterward, and I had to check to see if he was declawed (not, whew!) because they never came out once.

We have put Jacques up in his own Back Room Kingdom, where he has food and water and warmth and toys and his very own (temporary) place to do his "business." He has been separate from our three quite curious pets (our tiny dog, Wolf, whines and whines and whines with longing when we bring Jacques through in the carrier!).

Unfortunately, Jacques' time on the streets means:

- He is very malnourished, too thin, likely with worms. He's eating ravenously, drinking water, and doing the bodily functions, though. After a meal, he's all about laying right in your lap for pets and a snooze, like clockwork. It is intensely adorable.

- He has not been vaccinated for anything, ever. He's getting all the tests and vaccines now, but he faces a few months of isolation to ensure he does not have rabies, because...

- At some point, Jacques got into a scrape and received a wound. When we got him, he had an abscess on his back, and it ruptured the morning we were taking him to the vet. It was pretty gross, poor little guy :-(

- Luckily, he is currently being treated at the new Washington Avenue Animal Hospital. There, he received a preliminary examination, and will:

1. Undergo surgery to treat his wound. Unfortunately, little Jacques has a nasty little portion of infection that needs to be cleaned and treated;

2. While under, he'll get snipped because it's the responsible and necessary thing to do (in the meantime, we'll be as always, on the lookout for little Jacques-babies as I think he's been busy....);

3. Receive all the tests to assess and evaluate his general health, FIV status, poop analysis, etc.; and

4. Receive vaccines and antibiotics (including ongoing treatment directives).

WHAT WE NEED: $1,500 (And why!)
Jacques is an amazing cat and intensely sweet. He deserves the chance for a healthy, happy life, but we need a little help to get him there. Due to *waves hands wildly to indicate the dumpster fire that is 2020*, we're intensely under-employed like so many others, with what little aid we receive set to run out shortly. We are prepared to take on the incidentals of another little pooper (kibbles, litter, etc) but an unexpected bill of this sort is tough.

The cost of his initial care for surgeries and wellness is estimated (if all goes well) as about $1,200 (as per WAAH). After, he will require total isolation for a TBD (as per recommendations from the doctor) period of time, likely to be between 45 days and 6 months. He will require ongoing antibiotic treatment, as well as post-op check-in visits. There is, also, a chance that infection can return, but you better believe we will do our best to keep him on the mend. His sweet and mild manner makes me very hopeful that he'll do ok receiving necessary treatment.

We are asking our little community to help this guy shine his sweetness onto the world--perhaps together, we can give him the life he truly deserves.

OUR COMMITMENT:
Jacques will receive the care he needs, and a furever home he deserves. Every penny of these contributions will go first to his initial vet bill (est. $1,200; see "Updates" for bills) and follow-up treatment(s). Any remaining (LOL) would be for initial sundries (we gotta get another of everything for him to be in isolation--our temporary set-up will need an upgrade of litter box & food dishes, a scratching post is in order, etc...). All expenses will be posted.

Jacques will be "fostered" with us (Jenny & Rob) for the immediate future. Pending quarantine needs, we are prepared to let the King keep his Kingdom for quite some time.

Beyond that, we are fully committed to giving Jacques a loving home. Due to some unknowns, we cannot be sure what that will look like (i.e., if Jacques is FIV+, we will need to find a more suitable home than potential ones we have lined up).

The 2 main scenarios will be:
1. Jacques will spend his time recuperating and in isolation with us, and when safe, he will go to live in a loving new home either with a fully vetted / dear friend, or stay to live here.

2. Jacques is, for some reason, unable to stay with us or be re-homed with known friends, in which case we will do ALL THE THINGS necessary to find him a great home, working with our AMAZING NEIGHBOR to make sure he is safe and happy.

THANK YOU for listening to Jacques story, and if you can put a little toward his new, warm, happy life, we know he'll appreciate it SO MUCH.
