My sister Jacque’ was diagnosed with cancer in January. In February she had a hysterectomy to remove it, and ever since then it’s been one devastating complication after another. What we all prayed would be the turning point toward recovery instead became a relentless cycle of setbacks, hospital stays, additional procedures, and rare complications that almost no one else faces. Watching her fight through this month after month—exhausted, in pain, and still trying to hold on to hope—has been heartbreaking. She’s been through so much more than anyone should have to endure.
My brother-in-law Eric has been her rock through every single day of it. He stepped away from work so he could manage the endless appointments, handle the care at home, and make sure she never had to face any of this alone. That choice meant their income dropped hard at the exact moment the bills kept piling up. They’re now paying the full cost of COBRA—$700 a month—until she can get on his insurance in July, on top of her $5,000 out-of-pocket maximum. The financial strain has become almost as heavy as the medical one, and they’ve already used every other bit of help available to them. They’re still coming up short, and the weight of carrying this mostly alone is starting to show.
They’re both the kind of people who hate asking for help. But right now they’re stretched thinner than I’ve ever seen them, and a little support would mean they don’t have to face the next few months completely on their own. Anything that comes in will go straight toward the remaining medical costs, the COBRA premiums, and the income gap while Eric is on leave. Even a small gift takes some of that crushing pressure off so Jacque’ can put her energy into healing, and so Eric doesn’t have to shoulder every bit of this by himself.
Thank you for reading and for any help you can give. It would mean the world to our family right now
