Help Into the Roots rebuild their farm

Into the Roots is a small-scale organic farm in Bena on Boon Wurrung Country, Gippsland. Jay, Kim and Mitch had just finished their first summer season, working outrageously long hours to make their farm viable, investing their time and savings into this project. The season went really well, and they were pushing on through the winter season when the devastating storm hit Victoria over the last few days.

The record-breaking gusts of wind and pelting rain pulled down over 20 trees on the property, wreaking havoc. The poly tunnel was destroyed (which was used as both a nursery and a growing space), with everything inside also ruined. The crops in the ground were battered and lost and lots of other infrastructure on the farm was also destroyed. It was a terrifying night of them trying to save their farm with trees falling all around them.

The 3 young farmers are on the ground working to salvage and fix all that was lost - without power or proper running water. The growing space, fences and tunnel were not insured, and they are unable to cover the costs of the damage. Aside from the infrastructure (poly tunnel and nursery equipment), the loss of crops, time as well as the money needed to invest in fixing the damage really stack up.

I'm doing this fundraiser with the approval of Jay, Kim and Mitch (I did have to cajole them a bit) - because they would never ask for it themselves. I know this won’t cover all of the costs, and I know that so many people lost so much in these storms, but I want to do all that I can to make sure the farm can continue. It's such a tough time right now for so many people, for so many different reasons, so honestly give what you can and if you can't give, a kind message to the gang is worth so much.

Into The Roots has already had such a great impact on the local food system and the 3 of them have really invested in their community, it would be a tragedy for the area to lose them!
