Help Hussine to repair his flat

Donation protected

Hello, my name is Jack! My friend Hussine (name changed to preserve anonymity) is an Iranian refugee who has recently been granted status to live in the UK. Since being granted refugee status, Hussine has experienced the sudden end of his Home Office financial support and is now struggling to secure himself financially.

Once being granted status as a refugee, Hussine's Home Office financial support immediately ended. This has been his sole source of finance over the past few years whilst his claimed has been processed. It is illegal for asylum seekers to work whilst they await a Home Office decision, therefore Hussine has been forced to take a large gap in his profession in order to seek asylum here. This is now having a negative impact on his attempts to gain employment, as due to the Home Office permitting him from working, he is without any recent work experience, which is a requirement for many positions.

Hussine also has a disability and is awaiting the outcome of his claim for Personal Independence Payment (PIP), which is a benefit he is entitled to as he is unable to work long hours. He will have to wait 8 months before he can get PIP to support his daily living. This is making it extremely difficult for him to find work.

Another aspect of Hussine's life that he does not have any autonomy over is where he is being housed. Following his successful asylum claim, Hussine was immediately moved to a 1 bedroom flat that in the other end of Glasgow. Hussine had made friends in his previous accommodation and had been volunteering his time at a local shop for refugees. Since being forced to move by the Home Office to the North East of Glasgow, he is now very far from his support network and close friends. This, understandably, is having a very negative impact on his mental health and wellbeing.

His new accommodation has no flooring or appropriate furniture. Hussine requires these basic items in order to make his home environment comfortable and livable. There are also several repairs which need to be carried out in the flat.

Please donate to Hussine to help combat the institutional racism that is present in the UK Home Office and that prevents people from establishing secure work as they seek asylum in the UK.
