Help Honduran children get an education!

Send a child to school! Education is the path out of poverty. Honduras is one of the poorest countries in the world. Many Honduran children cannot go to school because they simply cannot afford to buy school supplies or the required school uniform or pay the daily fine for not wearing a uniform. No child should be denied an education for these reasons! A $10 donation will buy one child school supplies for one year. Honduras has mandatory schooling through grade 6 but if a poor family can only afford food and shelter they cannot afford to buy the required supplies for school. Without a basic education the poverty cycle continues. There are several little schools in the Bonitillo, Honduras area. All are struggling to provide an education to an extremely poor colonia (village). Only about half the families can scrape together enough lempiras ( Honduran dollars) to send some of their children to school. Not all children in a family are fortunate enough to go. Education is important to Hondurans so if even one of their children can go that’s a brighter future for one at least.

 The first goal of this Go Fund Me campaign is to provide all the children in the colonia with school supplies so that they all have an opportunity to learn basic reading, writing and math through the 6th grade. The second goal is to provide backpacks and uniforms that would last several years. The third is to augment teacher salaries so that high quality teachers can be hired and increase retention of those teachers. Not only do they need adequate compensation, they are in dire need of teaching supplies…books, markers, pens, etc. A breakfast /lunch program is a future goal. Children cannot learn when they are hungry.

 Please help lift these children out of the cycle of generational poverty. I will be going to Honduras in January to distribute supplies. The new school year starts the beginning of February. A mere $10 will buy a child the necessary school supplies. Please be generous in your giving. These are hard working, kind, deserving people who just need a helping hand. Send a child to school!
