Help homeless young musician get back on his feet

Hello fellow humans!

I am making this post on behalf of my dear friend Laz.

He’s gotten in trouble with the system for being unable to pay just three months of rent back in the beginning of the year, and the way it goes, with fees and penalties now owes nearly 10 times as much to the housing corporation and is unable to get his affordable student housing back until he pays the entire debt off.

We have been trying to resolve the situation by our private means and connections but it has gotten extremely obvious we need help of wider community!

This system hates poor people and we are all participating and benefiting from it, so even if we aren’t able to dismantle it right now as of today, we OWE it to each other to help those most affected to handle its consequences as they’re just trying to survive day by day.

With the housing crisis in the Netherlands and Amsterdam especially it’s nearly impossible to secure affordable housing, especially on the short notice. Over last few months Laz have stayed at various addresses, including at mine while I still had a place in Amsterdam.

Tonight as I am typing this he has nowhere to sleep. He has found a new job at a hotel but he cannot afford to stay there either and has to wait till the end of the month for his paycheck (which still would not be enough for staying between hotels unfortunately)

If you’re reading this, there are a few ways you could support Laz in this extremely draining situation: Make sure share this post with people who are able to offer any kind of support (its free!) From financial (short term it will go for paying for hotels on the nights when he has no place to sleep, in the long term all extra funds will go towards paying off the collectors fees and the cost of eviction piled up on his initial rent debt) to temporary housing options in and around Amsterdam (transportation is pretty expensive too, so the closer the better) to hopefully soon finding more permanent housing solutions, wether it be a room or a studio. Let us know, every little bit helps!

And of course if you have anything to spare, every donation helps, there is no such thing as too small of a donation! (well, that is within the system's ability to process it (: )

Laz is a fantastic and super chill guy, good with animals and humans, so he is a pleasure to have around if you’ve got a couch you could spare.

As of now, a month in a hotel around amsterdam costs around 4000 euro. This is how long we have to wait till Laz gets his next paycheck.

Of course there are sometimes a little cheaper options like hostels, but with tourism being extremely big in Amsterdam, even getting an uninterrupted stay somewhere is pretty close to impossible. (most weekends are either booked out or extremely expensive) which with transportation costs, grocery budget and GFM withdrawal fees lands to about 150 euro a day on average. This is why we are focusing both on the long term goal AND daily goal of just keeping him housed until everything settles.

Whatever extra funds, if there are any, would go directly towards clearing Laz's debt to make him eligible for renting social housing as soon as possible.

Everybody deserves peace and rest, yes even poor people, and especially those unhoused. The mental toll this level of insecurity takes on people is unimaginable to anyone who has not previously faced such a situation themself.

Let's come through as a community and make this happen!

Just a 100 people donating 100 euros would bring him so much closer to stability! But just two of you could ensure he doesn't end up sleeping on the streets tomorrow! Each of these goals are equally important and possible to accomplish!

For now I set the goal as 4000 but in reality we will need way more than that, so I will be adjusting the goal and posting updates as we go.
