Support Hector in his Long COVID journey

Hello familia, friends, camaradas, y comunidad

This is Carmina, Hector's youngest child writing on his behalf. My hope is that this campaign reaches those whose lives have been positively affected by my dad's activism efforts, music, teaching, and bomb pozole. For the last two and a half years my dad has been having some acute health issues. Thanks to your help in last year’s fundraiser, his arm has been able to recover almost full mobility with the use of acupuncture. We have also received a generous donation of a vehicle which has been vital for my dad to get around safely, including to the hospital. He has felt very supported and touched by all the community care and we are so grateful!

I am once again asking for support on his journey. The doctors have diagnosed him with long COVID and he is having recording blood clots which are unpredictably landing him back in the hospital. Each time he feels symptoms and veritgo he needs to immediately go to the hospital to be monitored and given anti coagulant medication. It is working but it also put him at increased risk of bleeding in the case of injury. I would love for him to be able to focus on healing as much as possible without the additional stress of trying to find a way to make ends meet.

I am supporting my dad as much as I can, providing logistical and emotional support, nutritional advice, and medicinal herbs and fungi. As a childcare worker whose livelihood has been affected by COVID I am happy to help and visit but there's only so much I can sustain on my own. I believe deeply in mutual aid and community care being our best insurance. I hope to organize my community and the folks whose lives my dad has touched to pull together in support.

My dads recurrent vertigo and anemia is making it difficult & dangerous to continue to work manually, which is what he has historically relied on to make a living. He is continuing his music and language teaching and paid gigs, but they alone have not been lucrative enough to make ends meet. We are coming up with more sustainable long term plans for his necessary career pivot. He has $450 in basic living expenses that he urgently needs help with. They are due June 1.
