In the last ten years of my life, I have been through a lot. War, displacement and trauma, but I came out stronger. I built a new home for my family here in the Netherlands. I planted roots and started a business. All seemed to be going well until the covid-19 pandemic hit and all that I had worked for began to shatter..  

I have always pushed myself to be strong, to believe in hope. I refused to be broken, but covid has finally broken me. I have until the end of March to save my business, or all will be gone،.  

I came to the Netherlands in 2015 after years of seeking safety and a new home. I loved this country that welcomed me with open arms. I felt empowered to rise from trauma. I began dreaming again of a better future for my children.

 In 2018, I started a small business. I wanted to create a source of livelihood for my family, and to help my husband pursue his dream of university studies. It was very small in the beginning, selling women's clothes on social media. As the demand grew, I allocated a small room in my flat to house stock. Day by day, my dream grew. My business was getting noticed and my customer base grew. Some of my customers travelled from Germany to visit my shop so having store space was essential to maintain success. I therefore moved my business to a small shop in my city to keep up with demand. I loved seeing my shop flourishing. I loved that I could give jobs to people in my local community. My success story was being written, but with the arrival of the Corona virus in 2020, the problems began.

General lockdowns and quarantines made the street where our shop is located look like a ghost town. Travel bans deprived us of costumers who travelled from other parts of the Netherlands or Germany to visit our store. Online orders dried up as people were limited as to what they could spend on luxuries such as new items of clothing.

At first, we thought we could weather the storm. We tightened our belt and lived with austerity. But the economic situation was not getting any better, we fell behind on rent and on staff salaries. Month by month, the store's rent accumulated, and it was no longer possible to pay basic costs or replenish stock. Today, all resources and reserves have dried up, and government support measures are far from sufficient..

I have had to apply for deferral of tax and debts that have arisen with family and friends. I have received a sum of approximately €5,000 in support. Despite the support, the lockdowns have cost me €70,000 or more.

 

Last week, the shop owner gave us a final notice to empty the shop. If we lose the shop, all hope for recovery will be lost. So now I’m asking you for help. I hope to overcome hardship again and to save my dream. I put too much into this and I can’t bare to see it lost. Through this journey, I justified the time I was spending away from my children to build my business because I thought I was teaching them an important life lesson. On how to be flexible, how to be strong and how to overcome hardship. Now I don’t even know what to tell them or what lesson I have taught them..

 

I reach out to all of my friends, my family members and anyone who reads this story. I kindly ask you to help me pay our staff, to pay our rent and meet past financial obligations. I also ask for your help to secure the next step forward. We want to move to a new shop with a better location, rebuild our customer base and get new stock for the store.

Cost Breakdown

 

We are looking to raise between € 15000 and € 45000  for:

 

1- Payment of wages and accumulated fixed costs, such as shop rent.

2- To cover the costs of moving to a new store in a more vital location and equipping the shop 

3- Purchasing new products to replenish stock.

4- Work on the online store and mobile applications.

Every Euro that we collect will go towards our recovery.

In de laatste tien jaar van mijn leven heb ik veel meegemaakt. Oorlog, vluchten, trauma, maar ik ben er sterker uitgekomen. Ik heb voor mijn gezin een een nieuw thuis gemaakt in Nederland. Ik heb mij hier geworteld en een bedrijf opgebouwd. Alls ging goed, tot de covid 19 pandemie losbarstte en en alles waar ik voor had gewerkt begon in te storten.

Ik heb mezelf altijd gepusht om sterk te zijn, om in hoop te geloven. Niets kon mij breken, tot covid kwam. Covid heeft mij gebroken. Ik heb tot eind maart om mijn bedrijf te redden. Lukt dat niet, dan ben ik alles kwijt.   

Na jaren op de vlucht, op zoek naar een veilige plek en een nieuw thuis, kwam ik in 2015 in Nederland aan. Wat hield ik van dit land, dat mij met met open armen ontving! Hier vond ik de kracht om uit trauma te herrijzen. Ik begon weer te dromen van een betere toekomst voor mijn kinderen.            

In 2018 zette ik een klein bedrijfje op. Daarmee wilde ik mijn gezin onderhouden en mijn man helpen zijn droom van een universitaire studie waar te maken. Eerst was het maar een klein bedrijfje, dat dameskleding aanbod op sociale media. Maar de vraag steeg zó dat ik in mijn flat een kamertje moest inrichten voor voorraden. Mijn droom werd elke dag groter. Mijn bedrijf kreeg aandacht en mijn klantenkring groeide. Sommige klanten kwamen uit Duitsland en dus was het hebben van voldoende voorraad van het grootste belang om het succes vol te houden. Om de vraag bij te houden verhuisde ik mijn bedrijf naar een kleine winkel in het centrum. Ik vond het heerlijk om te zien hoe succesvol mijn winkel was. Ik vond het geweldig om banen te geven aan mensen uit de lokale gemeenschap. Mijn succesverhaal kreeg vorm, maar met de komst van de coronavirus in 2020 begonnen de problemen.

Met harde lockdowns en quarantines leek de straat waar onze winkel stond op een spookstraat. Reisverboden maakten het onze klanten uit andere delen van Nederland en Duitsland onmogelijk om naar de winkel te komen. Online bestellingen namen af omdat mensen bezuinigden op luxe-artikelen, zoals kleding.

Eerst dachten we dat we het wel konden redden. We haalden de broekriem aan en leefden zo zuinig mogelijk. Maar de economische situatie werd er niet beter op, we raakten achterop op winkelhuur en lonen. Elke maand stapelde de achterstallige huur zich nog verder op, we waren niet langer in staat om basiskosten te voldoen of de voorraad aan te vullen. Vandaag de dag zijn er geen middellen of reserves meer, en steunmaatregelen van de overheid zijn verre van toereikend.    

Vorige week hebben we van de verhuurder de laatste aanmaning gekregen om de winkel te ontruimen. Als wij de winkel kwijtraken, verliezen we ook alle hoop op een nieuw begin. Daarom vraag ik nu om hulp. Ik hoop opnieuw tegenslag te overwinnen en mijn droom te redden. De gedachte die droom te verliezen is ondraaglijk, ik heb er te hard voor gewerkt. Al de tijd dat ik er hart en ziel in stak, kon ik niet bij mijn kinderen zijn, maar dit rechtvaardigde ik met de gedachte dat ik ze een belangrijke levensles leerde. Over flexibiliteit, hoe sterk te zijn en zelfs de grootse moeilijkheden overwinnen. Nu weet ik niet eens wat ik ze moet vertellen, welke les ik ze geleerd heb.




Nu richt ik mij tot al mijn vrienden, mijn familieleden en iedereen die dit leest.  Ik vraag je vriendelijk ons te helpen ons personeel, onze huur en andere financiële verplichtingen te betalen. Ook vraag ik om jullie hulp om de volgende stap vooruit te maken: naar een nieuwe winkel verhuizen, op een veel betere locatie waar we onze klantenkring weer op  kunnen opbouwen en nieuwe voorraden kunnen aanleggen. 

Deze GoFundMe campagne heeft als doel ons de komende maanden gaande te houden en stappen vooruit te maken.




Opbouw Kosten

Wij hopen tussen € 15000 en € 45000 op te halen om:

1- Loonkosten en opeengestapelde vaste kosten zoals winkelhuur      

2- Verhuis-en inrichtingskosten nieuwe winkel op een levensvatbaarder locatie

3- Aanschaf nieuwe producten t.b.v nieuwe voorraad 

4- Werk aan de online winkel en mobiele applicaties.
