Libby is a 3 year old basset hound that was taken to a vet clinic in Lufkin, Texas after being hit by a car.
She suffered significant injuries which include a shattered pelvis and broken fibula and was given a very poor prognosis.
In a desperate attempt to save Libby's life, her family relinquished care to Basset Buddies and we made the commitment to seek out the best medical care available.
Libby was transferred to a specialist in Houston where she was evaluated and it was decided that surgery was the only option to save her though there were no guarantees.
On January 5th, Libby had repairs made to her pelvis. Though a difficult task, surgeons were able to piece her bones back together with screws. She is currently hospitalized and will remain so for the better part of a week. We are optimistic that any nerve damage will be minimal though additional surgeries may be required as certain screws are sitting at her spine.
Through her ordeal, Libby has shown tremendous determination to overcome this.
As long as Libby is willing to fight, we are willing to fight for her.
Libby's vet bills are extremely high. Just her surgery is estimated to cost between 5,000 and 8,000 dollars. This does not include any aftercare or additional surgeries she may need.
Basset Buddies Rescue of Texas is a 501c3 organization and all donations made are tax deductible.
Any funds raised above the cost of Libby's veterinary bills will be applied to other hounds in our care.
