Hazel's journey through transplant

On September 25, 2017 Hazel entered the hospital after what her parents expected to be a routine visit with pediatrician for what they thought might have been an upset tummy and maybe potentially needed a formula change. When the blood work came back she was in kidney failure an ambulance was called and she was transported to local hospital where she awaited transport to Children's Hospital. Both her kidneys were removed on October 2, 2017. In one week this families life was forever changed, they did not know much about kidney disease but have learned all they could to help their daughter in hopes to get through to transplant. Hazel has faced many issues along this journey and has endured a lot of medical issues along the way she was hospitalized until December 28, 2017 during her first stay where she was fighting for her life multiple times. Then in April 2018 was admitted again to have feeding tube placed and after surgery was placed in Cardiac ICU for heart failure created from extremely high blood pressure. She was placed on multiple medications for blood pressure and thankfully several months later echo cardiogram was repeated and heart function had returned to normal. Multiple hospital stays have occurred since for issues that required observation and changes in medications. Monthly trips to dialysis clinic to monitor her as she does 12 hour dialysis at home every night. We all like to say she is HAZEL STRONG and she has over come all obstacles in her path. On September 10, 2018 her parents got the call they had waited nearly a year for...the next morning Hazel would be placed on the Transplant List. This means she could possibly get a cadaver kidney, which means hospital would call at any time and they would have to be at hospital in less than 4 hours to get the kidney. Or she may have a live donor, because our body only needs one kidney someone could potentially be a match for her if they wanted to be tested then surgery would be scheduled. After transplant after being released she will have to stay within 30 miles of hospital, then after she is allowed to go home will have to be seen twice a week for three months for blood work and check ups, living 3 hours from hospital.
