Help Greg Recover From His Stroke
In 2020 my brother Greg had a major stroke and was airlifted by helicopter from his local hospital in the Poconos to the Lehigh Valley Medical Center in Allentown. Because of the pandemic he had to recover without any family members or his girlfriend Laura being able to visit. We fought long and hard for him to get the care he needed, and after six months he was finally able to go home -- something he was very determined to do and we weren't sure would be possible! Although Greg retains his ability to speak, and can get around with a walker, the stroke damaged his ability to swallow. He has now had his trach removed, but is still unable to eat or drink. Laura devotes full time to his care, and although slow, his progress continues.
But they could use some help. His Medicare coverage doesn't cover all his medical bills, and there are some additional things needed for the house. The money donated to Greg will be used for the following:
1) Pay for a speech therapist to help him learn to swallow again (medical insurance only pays for half)
2) Buy a new wood stove to heat his house this winter since the current stove can't be fixed and needs wood every two hours. (Previously Greg chopped all the wood needed from the trees on his property for the stove, and since he now needs to buy wood efficiency is key.)
3) Buy a new, higher toilet for his bathroom
4) Buy a new screen for his oversized sliding glass door so they can leave the door open when it is hot
5) Pay off the remaining medical bills from the hospital and rehab clinic
Anything you could donate towards Greg would be appreciated!
