Gracie had recently developed a bump behind her front leg, it looked like a hive or some kind of allergy related symptom. Gracie had been scratching like crazy and her usual allergy medication was not helping. We decided to take Gracie to the vet to see what more we could do to relieve her itching. The lump was aspirated and upon first glance, the collected cells appeared abnormal. The sample was sent to a lab for analysis and the results came back that Gracie is positive for cancer.
Gracie has a Mast Cell Tumor (MCT) that is described as being very aggressive. The excessive scratching we witnessed was a result of the affected cells releasing histamine in Gracie's body. Learning about the nature of MCTs, we could not afford to waste time scheduling surgery to have the mass removed.
Just days after being diagnosed, Gracie's weakened immune system made her vulnerable for a parasite in her digestive tract. The parasite caused her to become ill to the point that we had to rush her to an emergency vet for treatment.
We are seeking donations to help us cover the cost of multiple veterinary visits, a trip to the ER, medication, surgery, a trip to an oncologist and supplies for her recovery.
In a few short weeks, Gracie will be four years old. This girl has given us so much love, laughs and joy in her few years; we will do anything we can to ensure she lives a full, happy and healthy life. Willow is even doing her part to help Gracie recover by giving her plenty of snuggles and kisses.
We would be so grateful for any help we can get to help our girl in her fight against cancer.
