This is Sheryl and her family (Damon and Lumen). Sheryl is an amazing women with a contagious spirit that lights up the room. She is one of the most dedicated and loving wife, and mother I know. Sheryl has been diagnosed with a Tarlov Cyst Disease, (also known as perineural/perineurial, or sacral nerve rootcysts. They are dilations of the nerve root sheaths and are abnormal sacs filled with cerebrospinal fluid (hereafter referred to as CSF) that can cause a progressively painful radiculopathy (nerve pain). Years ago she injured herself right on top of the cyst, which caused her immense pain to walk. She began receiving Prolo Injections, and they initially helped, however over the years, her Cyst has grown bigger, and is symptomatic again. Sheryl has been bed ridden for almost the entirety of this year, 2018.
This year has been especially hard for the family financially. They moved to Austin for several months to have Sheryl closer to her doctors. Damon and Sheryl run their own business, so Sheryl has been unable to work, and Damon has been assisting in all her care. Because they are self employed this also means they pay for insurance each month which adds up to about $3,000 a month. All while trying to also pay for regular bills as well as additional increased medical bills.
She was recently approved for a Sacral Laminectomy to remove the Tarlov cysts. There are only 3 doctors in the country that perform this surgery. This surgery is scheduled for August 21st. They have a $6,000 deductible that they will have to pay for the surgery. Any amount helps as bills are piling up.
Damon and Sheryl are hard working, and never ask for anything. This past year has been one of the roughest times in their lives. Sheryl is one of the most spunky outgoing people I know. She is an active and outgoing person who has not been able to be herself these last few years dealing with this Tarlov Cyst. Any help you may be able to provide to the family is greatly appreciated. They are struggling financially with all the medical expenses and we are hopeful that this surgery will be the final step in Sheryl's long road to recovery.
