Hi, my name is Elise and I got Triple Negative Breast Cancer at 32.
It was the eve of my 33rd birthday, I’d smashed a work presentation and was flying home from New Zealand for an early celebration with a friend. For some reason, I left dinner and felt my boobs before bed – and there was a lump. I’ll never forget the shock, disbelief and utter whirlwind that followed throughout my 15 months of chemo, surgery, radiation and further chemo. It was utter hell.
Through my treatment, I picked up lots of tips and tricks that helped me manage my side effects and want to share these with other women during the most difficult time of their lives. I have curated a kit with ideas for recently diagnosed women to take control of chemo side effects and kick-start their wellness afterwards.
My dream is to gift these packs to every young woman who has to undergo chemo - for free. I want to arm as many women as I can with the best chance to take ownership of their health and chemo side-effects, no matter their situation.
Each kit includes:
- 1 x Bravery Co headscarf (We all lose our hair in 2 weeks)
- Moo Goo moisturiser, toothpaste, sunscreen, lip balm, deoderant (chemical-free for sensitive chemo skin)
- Biotene mouthwash (for mouth sores and managing taste changes)
- Eyemask & ear plugs (for better sleep - steroids make it hard to sleep for more than 1hr per day)
- Castor Oil (aids hair loss/ regrowth of hair, eyebrows and eyelashes - we lose those too)
- Gift ideas for their support network
- Ideas for women to nourish themselves and their health beyond chemo
It costs approx $120 to produce each kit right now, and whilst I've gifted 7 packs to young women at the Kinghorn Cancer Centre using my own savings, I'm hoping for donations to help me make many more and would love if you could share with your networks or share ideas to help me scale my ambition!
I'm not set up as a charity, so your donation won't be tax deductable - though I hope that doesn't stop you! :)
