Help get my disabled brother home.

My brother, Lenny, has been in and out of the hospital for months, having gone into the ICU in October, diagnosed with pneumonia. Given that my brother already has a fragile immune system because of the TBI or traumatic brain injury he suffered in 2000 from a drunk driver hitting him with his car, this sickness had him on death's doorstep. He has severe scoliosis from the effects of the brain injury and this shifting of his body has shrunk and made useless one of his lungs, so he had a LOT of trouble breathing. While he was in the hospital, my mother, Joan, took a leave from work to be with him everyday. Though my brother has trouble expressing himself, he is still cognitive and aware of his surroundings and many times he is ignored and not treated like a normal patient with bedside manner, so my mother stays with him to make decisions for him since he cannot. Through his perseverance and strength, he fought off the sickness and recovered, however he now requires a small bit of oxygen running to him and was given a tracheotomy. He was then sent to a rehab facility, called Van Duyn Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing, in Syracuse, NY. He was just to be there until a nursing company in our hometown could be found to provide services in our home. It seems, however, that Van Duyn is completely incompetent in providing these services and in giving my brother care. He is fully disabled, so he cannot bathe, eat or care for himself at all. Van Duyn has recently been feeling a lot of heat from media because it was on the news that there was no heat for an extended period of time during the winter! There were elderly and disabled patients at this facility with no heat in the middle of a New York winter. Their power has gone out and been out for days. My brother has gone hours without being changed after a bowel movement and I myself have had to help change him with Van Duyn staff. His trach care is important so he doesn't suffocate and my mother stays at the facility every day, sleeping on the floor, providing this care and hitting the help button for him since he's unable. We fear for his life in this facility and have been trying to get him home. His social worker at the facility has not tried to get him nursing care like she should, but a change of administrative staff has us optimistic that they will work harder. This situation has caused me to move back to my home town from Buffalo to try and help my family by being here to take care of him and provide an income. Unfortunately, I have not yet gotten employed. I have gotten interviews, but have not gotten formal answers, yet. During the time my mother has been out of work, her mortgage payments have piled up and she has been unable to pay them. We have been living off of the money I had saved up from work in Buffalo and the help welfare has given her. The bank has now decided to move for foreclosure on our house. This money is to pay the payments to current, so we can save our house and have more time to get my brother home and out of Van Duyn, because I fear that if he stays, he will be dead sooner than later. Any donation would be appreciated more than you know. My brother and mother have had such a rough go but have both fought so hard for the last 18 years to have a normal life or as close as they can get and it kills me to see them hurt. Thank you for reading this and for taking the time to consider donating.
