Help get ALL students to Andros

Tax deductible
Dear Supporters of Education,

We are seeking donations to give financial support to our middle school students at Clark Montessori High School.  All your donations will be tax-deductible.

8th grade students travel to Andros Island Bahamas at the Forfar Field Station to study marine biology and social-cultural educational standards. This field study experience serves our 8th grade students as their culminating experience of the two-year middle school Montessori program.

This year marks the 23rd consecutive time that 8th grade students have culminated their middle school studies in this manner, which is an integral part of our school’s Montessori curriculum for all students. The cost of travel has grown over the years, making it prohibitively expensive for some of our families. Even with many opportunities for fundraising throughout the year, there are gaps that still need to be filled so that all students, regardless of socio-economic level, can go.

The cost for one student to attend is $2300. Your donation will go towards travel expenses, food and lodging, Passports, and supplies the students need such as snorkel gear and guide books.

As educators and alumni, we have seen the transformative nature of what studying abroad can do for our students and we believe that all of them deserve the opportunity to go. Please help us to make their study abroad dreams come true!

We greatly appreciate your help and support!

More about the trip:
The capstone trip for the 8th grade year is a trip to Andros Island.  Students keep a Field Journal which includes lecture noted, interview, research and sketched and daily written reflections about their experiences.  They write a formal paper and present research on major and minor topics and assess themselves daily on their leadership skills.

More about the school:
Clark Montessori, the nation’s first public Montessori high school, has been nationally recognized for academic excellence.  The Montessori teaching method encourages students to learn by piquing their natural curiosity about the world and by providing an environment that kindles their natural drive to learn.  Our school is best known for its field studies and intersessions, community service as a method for learning about the world, thematic work emphasis, seminars, and relationship building.  Clark is an Urban school that is diverse in race, gender, neighborhoods and socio economic backgrounds.  Over 50% of the students attending the school are economically disadvantaged.
