Thank you to everyone for your kindness and generosity! We have exceeded our initial goal of $7,000. Since Gail is going on disability, her employer will remove her from their insurance and she will need to pay for COBRA. Her COBRA payments have increased to $680 per month and her hospital visit copays are $100 each and $500 when she is admitted. Within the last 30 days, Gail has been admitted to the hospital 3 times, so this will give you an idea of why we have raised our goal to $12,000.

Gail is so grateful and relieved. She can rest and heal, fighting this battle without fear of making all these insurance related payments. It’s such a relief! She has repeated to me on numerous occasions, “I have really good friends.” She is right about that! So many of you have supported her not only with donations, but smiles, well wishes, hugs, and encouragement. Gail gets choked up thinking about it and really thrives on all of the positive energy you have sent her way.
Once Gail has kicked cancer’s butt, she will donate the remaining money to the San Diego Parrot Head Club to give to one of their many charitable causes.
Gail needs our help! Those of you who have been following Gail and her story, know that she lost her colon to a botched colonoscopy in September of 2018. Gail continued to work, fought her way back to health and had surgery scheduled to reattach her small intestine to what is remaining of her colon. Unfortunately, she was recently diagnosed with two types of breast cancer just weeks before the surgery. The surgery has now been canceled and she continues to live with a colostomy bag while undergoing Chemotherapy and a double mastectomy for the cancer. The Chemotherapy, with complications from a missing colon, has landed her back in the hospital, dehydrated and weak. The doctors are also closely watching her heart as it has become enlarged.
At this time Gail is unable to work and will lose her insurance if she can't make the payments. She needs our help to cover that cost! We are trying to raise $7,000 to cover her medical insurance payments for a year while she undergoes Chemo treatments and surgery. Gail is a beautiful person with a heart of gold! So many of us can recall times when she was there for us and now it is time for us to help her out.
Gail is a fighter and she will get through this, but working at this time is not an option. She needs to rest and keep her strength and needs to be reminded of this all the time. She's realizing that she will need to slow down a bit in order to kill the cancer and get back on her feel. For now though, she needs our help so she doesn't have to worry about making her medical insurance payments, which will allow her to concentrate on self-care and kicking cancer's butt!
It is our hope that she will be back to herself by her birthday in January of 2021 and we will have the "Thankful to be Alive" birthday party that she recently canceled. With your help, we will have that party!
