This is year five for the cinema under my management in Zipolite, Oaxaca, Mexico. Before me, there had been a cinema, operated by Mark, for 8 years. A cinema has been a part of Zipolite for over a decade now. We offer people a place to go, be social, connect and unplug. The cinema is a taste of home. We share movies from around the world as well as music, art and other interests that are brought to us.
We are here for everyone that finds themselves in our delightful Zipolite. Over the years, with help from my staff, friends and guests we have created a comfortable space offering different events for different moods and interests. Some have called the cinema a 'Cultural Centre'.
Rent was and has been renegotiated. The fat has been trimmed. Changes were made to keep costs down (still waiting on CFE to switch to three meters to keep electricity costs down) while still managing to attract more guests. Many wonderful people have inspired and supported me to improve our schedule, service and venue. If it were not for Covid, I know, the cinema would have had the best high season yet. Thank you every one!
Despite all that, I have not been able to make ends meet. In order to keep the cinema here in Zipolite, I need your help. I need to catch up on rent, make some repairs and stay afloat this low season in order to be here next season (and hopefully many seasons after that) for your return visit (for those of you that do not live here year round).
What will I be doing with your generous donations....as much of it as I can will go towards past rent and ideally the remainder of this years rent. I have some required repairs for the bar area (grey water and storage) and possibly 'expand' the banos. The one toilet is just not enough for our increased and steady business (thank you!!!).
The minimum goal is $4000 cdn. The middle goal is $6500 cdn. Ideally, $10000 cdn. Please remember, a portion of your donation with 'gofundme', will cover the fees for using this safe and secure platform and to exchange the money.
Gofundme advises that a timeline be given...I have 15 days to give the landlord something and to negotiate the balance owing. That was on February 23, 2021. Yes, we are in Zipolite and nothing happens quickly but he has every right to ask for the rent. So at best, I have 30 days.
We can continue with our Jam Night, Karaoke Night, Animated Movie Festival, Foreign Films, Academy Award Movies, Movie Poster Contest, Cocktail Contest, Games Night, Concerts, New Artists, Choirs, Circus and what ever other activities lend themselves to our space (like art exhibition, video making workshops, arts and crafts day, donation/swap days, cooking classes, etc).
I would love to be able to sit down with each and every one of you this year, next season or the years to follow and say thank you. I hope that we may talk about how wonderful it is to be here (serving this community) and the beautiful people that find their way here.

Este es el quinto año para el cine bajo mi dirección en Zipolite, Oaxaca, México. Antes que yo, había habido un cine, operado por Mark, durante 8 años. Un cine ha sido parte de Zipolite durante más de una década. Ofrecemos a las personas un lugar para ir, socializar, conectarse y desconectarse. El cine es un sabor de casa. Compartimos películas de todo el mundo, así como música, arte y otros intereses que nos traen. Estamos aquí para todos los que se encuentran en nuestro delicioso Zipolite.
A lo largo de los años, con la ayuda de mi personal, amigos e invitados, hemos creado un espacio cómodo que ofrece diferentes eventos para diferentes estados de ánimo e intereses. Algunos han llamado al cine un "Centro Cultural". El alquiler fue y ha sido renegociado. Se ha recortado la grasa. Se hicieron cambios para mantener bajos los costos (aún esperando que CFE cambie a tres medidores para mantener bajos los costos de electricidad) mientras se logra atraer a más huéspedes.
Muchas personas maravillosas me han inspirado y apoyado para mejorar nuestro horario, servicio y lugar. Si no fuera por Covid, lo sé, el cine habría tenido la mejor temporada alta hasta ahora. ¡Gracias a todos! A pesar de todo eso, no he podido completar el fin de mes. Para mantener el cine aquí en Zipolite, necesito su ayuda. Necesito ponerme al día con el alquiler, hacer algunas reparaciones y mantenerme a flote en esta temporada baja para estar aquí la próxima temporada (y con suerte muchas temporadas después) para su visita de regreso (para aquellos de ustedes que no viven aquí durante todo el año).
¿Qué haré con sus generosas donaciones? La mayor parte que pueda se destinará al alquiler anterior e idealmente al resto del alquiler de este año. Tengo algunas reparaciones necesarias para el área del bar (aguas grises y almacenamiento) y posiblemente 'expandir' los baños. El único inodoro no es suficiente para nuestro creciente y constante negocio (¡¡¡gracias !!!).
El objetivo mínimo es $ 70,000 Mxn. El objetivo medio es $ 100,000 Mxn. Idealmente, $ 150,000 Mxn. Recuerde, una parte de su donación con 'gofundme' cubrirá las tarifas por el uso de esta plataforma segura y para cambiar el dinero.
