Help Gabby Stay in School

Meet one of the newest members of the class of 2021- Gabby! Gabby will begin her college career at The New School, in New York City, on August 28th where she will be studying Global Studies.
I met Gabby two years ago when, as a 10th grader at The Academy for Careers in Television and Film in Queens, she visited my office with her high school for a career day. Later that year I was part the team that hired her as a summer intern. Working with Gabby allowed me to see her work ethic, motivation and enthusiasm first-hand. I remained in contact with her as she finished high school and have seen how hard she has worked for her academic successes, how she has sought out new work experiences and how she has continued to pursue her interests despite the obstacles she has had to overcome.
Gabby graducated from high school this year with an overall GPA of 91. Through a variety of scholarships and grant awards, Gabby’s tuition is fully paid, but due to circumstances beyond her control, the loans she had planned to take out for her room and board for the 2017-2018 school year fell through just 4 days before her move in date. Gabby now faces a balance of $12,500.00, just for the fall semester and she needs your help!
Our goal is to raise $25,000.00 - the total amount that she needs to cover the cost of room and board (including fees charged by Go Fund Me) for the 2017-2018 school-year. This amounts to just 250 donations of $100 each or 500 donations of $50 each, but of course any amount that you would like to contribute will make a difference and will be appreciated!
As the first person in her family to go to college, Gabby is excited for a new beginning, not only for herself, but also for her family. She aims to be an inspiration to her younger family members to show them what is possible. Gabby’s parents immigrated to the U.S. from Trinidad and as a first-generation American, Gabby has faced numerous struggles. However, in the face of hardship, she has always held her head high and been successful. She views college as a chance to better herself as she works toward helping to change the world.
Her goal is to work for the United Nations or an international organization where she can help communities in need and advocate for those who have faced discrimination and oppression.
I know that Gabby will leave an unforgettably positive mark on the world and the people she’s encountered; they will be forever changed for the better.
Contributions in any amount will make a difference! By September 1st, we need to raise $2,800 of the $12,500 for the fall semester. Please join me in helping Gabby pursue her educational goals and remain in her dorm by making a donation today.
