Hello, I’m Daniqua Williams, a doctoral candidate in the Monmouth University Educational Leadership program. I aspire to become a university president to be an advocate and resource for marginalized groups. Professionally, I am a psychotherapist and owner of Free Your Mind Counseling Services where I provide counseling for young black women. Academically, my research focus is on multicultural counseling competency training with college counselors who serve international students. As an international student myself, I have first-hand experience with the stress and anxiety that comes with pursuing a degree in the U.S. and I want to add to the research to help current and future counselors show up for international students.

Please help me make my last academic goal come true. I'm 93 days away from graduation! Here's my story: I am an international student from The Bahamas pursuing my Doctoral Degree in Educational Leadership with a concentration in higher education. At the end of August 2022, I will be done with school forever! Unfortunately, life does not work out how we always want it. I stood in the Cashier’s office to plead my case as to why I have such a high balance with a small scholarship and a graduate assistantship that doesn’t cover the full semester’s tuition. They threatened to deregister me from my last few classes and told me that I need to pay $5,454 immediately to prevent this from happening. I would still have a balance of $15,073 left to pay for the rest of this semester. But at least they won’t kick me out of the school and allow me to graduate with a balance. I know that times are hard right now and with inflation, it doesn’t make it any easier. I would appreciate anything that you have to give to help me reach this long sought after goal.
Back story
My mother was able to fund my undergraduate degree and I was awarded a full ride graduate assistantship for my master's degree. For my doctoral degree, being an international student studying in the US, I do not qualify for financial aid nor US scholarships. In searching for other avenues of being able to complete my doctoral degree I applied to several home-based scholarships but that did not work out as I hoped it would. For the first time in my life I have to hold onto my faith, put aside my pride, and ask for help.
