CREA's Cocobolo Nature Reserve provides protection for some of the last remaining pristine tropical forest habitat in the center of Panama, a hyper-biodiverse rainforest on the Pacific slope of the Panamanian continental divide, home to the last known breeding population of the critically endangered endemic Limosa Harlequin Frog as well as a multitude of other flora and fauna sensitive to habitat destruction.

In normal years we generate income for the operation of the reserve by hosting educational camps for high schools and universities, wildlife photographers and passionate researchers, but the travel and safety restrictions during COVID have completely shut down our ability to earn this money, and after 18 months of this our savings are running out.

Donations will go toward maintaining our field station infrastructure and patrolling our property to ensure that we have a camp to go to and a forest to preserve and teach in when the groups return in 2022.

CREA's mission is to conserve tropical forests through research, education and partnership with local communities. We believe that dissemination of the knowledge of how essential tropical forests are to human well-being is crucial to their conservation.

CREA operates the Cocobolo Nature Reserve and Biological Field Station in Panama where it hosts researchers and students wishing to understand tropical forests. We host courses and workshops and promote ecological literacy. Find out more and sign up for our newsletter at www.crea-panama.org.
